The Alpha Course
With over 16.5 million people having been on an Alpha Course in 169 countries, the Alpha Course is a global phenomenon.
A 10 week course, Alpha is designed for people with questions about the meaning of life and the Christian faith, as well as new Christians and anyone wanting to revisit the foundations of their faith.
Evenings are relaxed and start with a meal, followed by a short talk. The course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?' After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.
Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile, and it is suported by all the main Christian denominations. We also run Daytime Alpha in the summer term, with creche facilities.
There is no charge for the Alpha Course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of food.

"I currently work as an Executive Assistant in the City and prior to attending St Stephens I had very rarely gone to church. I had been living the kind of life which felt far removed from Christianity and I was very lost and carried around a lot of pain and anger. At first I was afraid and ashamed to even attempt to start a dialogue with God. After some time I became keen to further explore my own rocky relationship with God and the Alpha course seemed like a great place to start. Through the course I managed to reconcile my own troubled relationship with God, reaffirm my faith and find the guidance I'd been looking for to try and live a better life. The culmination of the course for me was my decision to get baptised. For me this was a public declaration of my renewed faith and my intention to start my life again with God."
